Derecho packaging with Fathom motion effects

Energy drinks generally focus on raw power. And what has more raw power than nature? For our in-house energy drink we wanted to harness that natural force. The core idea was to capture a storm in a bottle.
A key part of this effect was the motion. Summer storms were used as inspiration to design an effect that would recreate the wind movement. At the center of the storm would be the berry.
Fathom effects can have both motion and dimension. The berries pop out of this vortex due to the depth of the effect. In our design file, we filled two areas with spot colors that won’t be printed, but instead designate where to place effects.
Then, using the Fathom plug-in for Adobe Illustrator or the Fathom Designer web app, we assigned effects to those spot colors. We can tint the effects by duplicating the spot areas and overprinting the desired color.
And we can preview the effect on an aluminum can in the browser.
Dion Label Printing did a fantastic job printing this onto 45 micron PET shrink sleeve using flexo. They got the final design that was uploaded to Fathom Designer, ripped it and printed onto standard PET to shrink on cans. With these enhancements, the design now provides a new experience for anyone passing by it.
